About this event
Join us for Reading the West Book Club on Tuesday, November 3 at 6 pm in the Fort Caspar Museum for an engaging discussion focused on the history, culture, and stories of the American West. This monthly book club brings readers together to explore both fiction and nonfiction that illuminate the people and events that shaped the region, with plenty of time for thoughtful conversation and shared perspectives. This month we will be discussing "Jim Bridger: Trailblazer of the American West" by Jerry Enzler. Born in 1804 and orphaned by the age of 13, Jim Bridger was thrust into the world of exploration and adventure at a very young age. He traveled up the Missouri River with Mike Fink to trap beaver, and by the age of 22 he had explored the Great Salt Lake, Bighorn River's Bad Pass, and the incredible vistas of Yellowstone. After this he would go on to lead trapping brigades into Blackfeet territory, guide Smithsonian scientists, engineers, army leaders, and more. Tapping sources uncovered in the six decades since the last documented Bridger biography, Enzler's book fully conveys the drama and details of the larger-than-life history of the "King of the Mountain Men." Free copies of the book are available to pick up at the Library before the discussion, while supplies last. All adults are welcome to attend, whether you are a longtime book club member or new to the group. Call 577.7323 for more information.
