  • Casper's police K9 teams were honored at the recent USPCA regional certifications; Sergeant Speiser's team earned the Top Dog award for Copper—marking his third win—while Sergeant Shoopman's team received recognition for K9 Zeke, who worked through Lyme disease. CULTURE NEWS

  • Casper author McKenzie Hoag turned personal grief into a children’s adventure novel (Oliver Dunn: One Summer. One Secret. One Wild Adventure) that honors her lost baby. The book is available at Wind City Books, and she will hold a signing on March 14 in downtown Casper.  Oil City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Feb. 3, local DJ Nyke visited Head Start to share his radio story and lead a dance party for preschoolers using popular tunes — the event supports a music-based curriculum that invites community performers.  104.7 KISS FM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wyoming’s Energy Authority recommended $11.7M in grants for projects to capture carbon and produce rare earths from Powder River Basin coal. Public comments on the proposals are due by Monday (including plans for a pilot facility near Gillette and a UW study on petroleum extraction).  Oil City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Fremont County child died this week from influenza, and the Wyoming Department of Health warned that H3N2 has led to more severe illness — flu shots remain available at local clinics for those meeting vaccination guidelines.  Oil City News
  • On Monday morning, a Glenrock couple experienced an unexpected roadside birth at a Casper gas station while headed to the hospital. Their newborn, Oliver (weighing 7 lbs, 6 oz), and his mother are doing well after swift help from emergency services.  K2 Radio

  • Casper Pickleball Sports Complex is hosting pickleball classes for all levels. Classes run on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 1 p.m. for $10 per session (paddles are provided), offering a way to learn the game and get active.  104.7 KISS FM
