CULTURE NEWS

  • Artcore invites Wyoming composers to showcase original music in a statewide competition for exposure and recognition; entries + a $15 fee, three manuscript copies, and adherence to submission guidelines must be postmarked by March 15.  104.7 KISS FM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A Casper geologist told state lawmakers on Wednesday that Wyoming granite matches that used in Olympic curling stones+Sen. Cale Case proposed working with the university to identify quarry sites and spark a new dimension stone industry.  Cowboy State Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Casper Fire EMS has certified three or four employees as drone pilots to support fire investigations, search and rescue, and mapping projects. Local fire departments are evaluating evolving drone technology to boost response times and improve safety in high winds + assess operational costs.  Cowboy State Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • From Feb. 27 to March 5 the Casper-Natrona County Health Department inspected local restaurants, grocery stores, and food outlets, noting minor violations that must be fixed within 10 days (which does not mean the venues are unsafe).  Oil City News
  • Suicide prevention trainings will take place soon in Casper to help residents learn to spot signs of distress and access local health support (session dates and locations will be announced later).  Casper Star-Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wyoming 3A and 4A boys basketball teams completed their regionals from March 5 to 7 in Buffalo, Lovell, Evanston and Gillette, earning seeding for the state tournament next week in Casper. Two wins advanced teams while two losses eliminated them.  K2 Radio
  • Casper hosted a weekend of state championships for small school boys' basketball, with Class 1A & 2A teams competing at the Ford Wyoming Center, Casper College and Natrona County High School. The Panthers won the 1A title and the Thermopolis Bobcats repeated as 2A champions in closely contested games.  K2 Radio
