COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Nicolaysen Art Museum is hosting the Empty Bowls event to raise money for groups that help those who do not have enough food—organizers say the fundraiser will support programs to feed people in need.  Casper Star-Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • Casper law enforcement agencies have compiled the weekly arrest log for March 21—28 that lists suspects with recommended charges and holds, but the report does not include all arrests or juvenile cases and all individuals are presumed innocent until convicted.  Oil City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wyoming filed an appeal on Wednesday against the February ruling that found the state unconstitutionally underfunded public schools—this appeal asks the Wyoming Supreme Court to review whether the Legislature met its constitutional duties by failing to properly adjust funding for inflation, pay competitive salaries, and ensure safe school facilities. The decision has significant implications for the future allocation of resources in public education.  Oil City News
  • The University of Wyoming Extension has opened registration for its fifth annual Wyoming Ranch Camp — held at Ladder Ranch in Carbon County from June 9 to June 13 — for prospective ranchers, ag professionals, and FFA advisers aged 18 and older. The program costs $200 per student, includes meals and lodging, and offers full scholarships, with applications due by April 4.  Oil City News

  • The Bureau of Land Management is asking for public input on its draft assessment of the Landscape Vegetation Restoration Project (a plan to control invasive non-native plants and restore healthy lands). Comments can be sent in until April 28 (by email, mail, or hand delivery).  Oil City News
  • Starting April 1, Casper will implement a one-cent sales tax to fund four projects—officials say the new tax will support planned local improvements.  Casper Star-Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament in Casper had many surprises as lower seeded teams beat top teams. Eight-seeded Shelton State beat Chipola 61-60 with a key layup by freshman Alana Obinaosle, tenth-seeded Eastern Arizona won 64-59 against two seed Wabash Valley after a scuffle led to ejections, Dodge City beat New Mexico 58-41 after a close first quarter, and Three Rivers led 39-33 at halftime against Northwest Florida.  Oil City News
