Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 7th of April.
Good morning, Casper.
LoRayne Day, a Natrona County High School graduate from Casper, became a Hollywood star in the 1950s with hit films, magazine covers and a popular record featuring her line 'I like the wide open spaces.' A Fort Caspar Museum exhibit displays her costumes and a doll—plans say it will remain on display through next February.
Casper author Dana Volney, who has written 13 holiday romance books, talked on a local podcast about her journey from studying at Casper College to securing a film deal for her novella "A Heart For the Holidays." She said an email in November led to a shopping agreement—now the movie will star Jen Lilley, Kathleen Quinlan and Michelle Hurd, though filming may happen in New Mexico.
Between March 31st and April 6th, the Casper-Natrona County Health Department inspected restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, mobile food units, commissaries, and food vending operations to check for violations and help businesses correct unsafe practices.
Inspectors noted that all violations must be fixed immediately or within 10 days—there is no pass or fail rating applied.
Natrona County High School graduate Alesha Lane broke the New Mexico State University women’s outdoor discus record with a 14.89 meter throw that marked her personal best—she signed a letter of intent to compete in throwing events for NMSU.
