CRIME NEWS

  • A Casper man, Walter Bunney (60), is accused of using a cane to damage two windows and scratch the roof of a parked police car on April 29 at 4:22 p.m. in Evansville; he faces a felony charge with bond set at $500.  Oil City News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A free Star Wars celebration will take place Sunday, May 4 at Washington Park in Casper from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.—organizer Marshall Griffin said the event will offer games, a Grogu egg hunt at 3 p.m., a costume contest with judging at 6 p.m., door prizes, vendors, and a screening of the original film at 9 p.m. A portion of vendor sales will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming as the celebration aims to become an annual community event.  Oil City News

  • Southridge Elementary Rock Band students recorded classic rock songs at Casper College’s Wheeler Hall on April 30. Music teacher Jeremy Huck said the 31 students learned basic chords and will perform two songs live for their families on May 16 — joined by KWHS choir students.  Oil City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The EPA’s Denver office, now overseen by former legislator Cyrus Western, approved an aquifer exemption for Ur-Energy’s Lost Creek uranium mine in southwest Wyoming this week—confirming that the aquifer will not be used for drinking water as the project moves toward expansion.  Cowboy State Daily

  • Gov. Mark Gordon has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff statewide on Sunday, May 4—according to the governor's office—honoring the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.  Oil City News
  • Natrona County expanded its court diversion program on April 25 to offer treatment, counseling and support to people facing low-level charges in Casper. Community leaders said the new Circuit Court Diversion program builds on the earlier Municipal Court Diversion Program from October—reducing jail use and easing court congestion.  Oil City News
