CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Casper’s music community mourns Richard Turner (68), the longtime bassoonist for the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra and adjunct professor at Casper College, who died on April 29. A celebration of his life and Irish jam session is scheduled for Saturday, May 23 at 1 p.m. at Edness Kimball Wilkins State Park. Oil City News

- ➤ On Tuesday, May 5, the Natrona County School District announced that Kelly Walsh High School + Natrona County High School were placed in a brief precautionary lockout after swatting calls, with school operations continuing normally and enhanced law enforcement presence at Park Elementary. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Missouri Avenue improvements are planned over a six-block stretch between East 15th and East 21st after Casper City Council approved a contract with Installation and Service Company Inc. The project includes asphalt replacement, new water main pipes, ADA ramps, and other repairs, with completion set for Oct. 30. Oil City News
- ➤ Casper City Council approved a contract Tuesday for major renovations at Marion Kreiner Pool. The project, costing $1,146,307 and funded by a Wyoming Outdoor Recreation grant + local funds, will update the filtration system, boilers and add a new pool slide with work expected to finish by June 24. - ➤ Tuesday, May 5, the Casper City Council approved a new liquor license for Dickey’s Barbecue Pit at 325 S. Durbin St, housed in the former Village Inn building. The license permits all alcoholic beverages, though the restaurant plans to serve only beer. Oil City News

- ➤ Casper tattoo artist Nelly Brown (a community favorite) who beat cancer before is now facing a Stage 4 diagnosis and is receiving strong local support to help her through this challenging time. Casper Star-Tribune
- ➤ The Wyoming Department of Health launched an online tool called the Community Naloxone Resource Map that lists 30 sites in 22 counties where free naloxone is available, with details (such as addresses and hours) to help residents and organizations prevent opioid overdoses. Oil City News
