Good morning, Casper.

FBI said that in 2024, Wyoming residents lost over $43 million to internet scams, a 230% increase that made the state third in per capita losses, with major hits from data breaches, investment fraud, fake texts and property scams, and it urged everyone to report even small scams+ help track trends.

In 1971, a Bell 47G2 helicopter from Casper sold by businessman Joe MacGuire’s father with cash delivered in a paper bag was used in a daring Mexican prison breakout involving Joel David Kaplan and his cellmate—this led to an FBI inquiry and later inspired a Hollywood film starring Charles Bronson.

Comedian Patton Oswalt and fellow performer Emo Philips entertained Casper audiences at The Rialto Theater on Friday and Saturday—Oswalt joked about his long drive from Bozeman and the need for a strong bladder while praising Wyoming's laid-back vibe—earning hearty laughter and a standing ovation.

Reid Rasner from Casper spoke with lawmakers about Wyoming’s new stable token, a digital asset set to keep its value at $1 per token while aiming to fund school programs and enable payments like water bills.

Lawmakers plan to back the token with U.S. Treasury securities and repurchase agreements, and critics warn that liquidity challenges and competition with rival stablecoins may complicate the project — officials stress swift financial partnerships to overcome these hurdles.

Women in Wyoming are increasingly buying handguns and taking shooting classes for self-protection—experts say this trend shows a shift toward personal empowerment.

Local instructors note that many new female shooters prefer handguns designed for smaller hands, like the Smith and Wesson M&P Shield 380 EZ—an option praised for its gentle recoil that builds confidence for beginners.

A Casper teen, Louie Wilkinson, won bronze at his first MMA bout in Ohio this spring and now qualifies to fight in a world competition in Brazil in June—his coach at Outlaw MMA and Fitness said the win shows bright promise.

Wilkinson trains daily at the north-side gym and works to improve his skills—he hopes one day to reach the UFC.
