- ➤ In May 1971, two Casper high school seniors discovered many dead bald and golden eagles during a hike in Jackson Canyon and reported them—sparking a national outcry. Their action led to congressional investigations and legal moves against ranchers who used poison and hunting methods to control predators. Cowboy State Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wyoming Supreme Court Chief Justice Kate Fox defended the state’s judicial selection process in Torrington on May 19 as lawmakers in Casper, who criticized political influence, moved to have a joint resolution drafted that would give voters a say on whether the Senate approves new state Supreme Court justices. Lawmakers voted eight to six on the measure, which comes as scrutiny of the judiciary grows — Fox prepares to leave the bench on May 27. Casper Star-Tribune
