CRIME NEWS

  • Eli Alan Elbert admitted to pistol-whipping a victim during an armed robbery last summer on Hillside Drive and bragged about his drug dealing before he was sentenced on May 29 to 20 years in federal prison in Casper — his sentence also includes five years of supervised release.  Oil City News
  • A man arrested in Natrona County for meth possession—over 400 grams—received a 151-month prison sentence after a plea deal.  Casper Star-Tribune

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper is marking nearly 40 years with NIC Fest that began on Friday and runs through Sunday — the event offers live music from Opera Wyoming with Casper pianist Susan Stubson, indigenous dancers and many food trucks to help raise funds for the museum.  Oil City News
  • Casper’s Old Yellowstone District hosted the 2025 First Thursday Art Walk on June 5 — the event featured art displays, live music, and food trucks alongside a Children’s Entrepreneur Market at David Street Station. The next Art Walk will be held on July 10.  Oil City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers in Casper are set to consider a constitutional amendment that would eliminate property taxes — a move aimed at shifting revenue to sales and use taxes and addressing taxpayer confusion, with property taxes contributing $2 billion last year. The proposal received an 11 to 3 committee vote and will be discussed further on Aug. 21.  Oil City News
  • K-9 Duster— a bomb-sniffing dog— retired from the Wyoming Highway Patrol after nine years of work keeping officers and the public safe. The Patrol said he served at important events and the Capitol and will now enjoy a quieter life with plenty of rest.  K2 Radio
  • Wyoming Highway Patrol K-9 Duster retired after nine years of detecting explosives and guarding public officials. The Patrol honored his service in a Facebook post Friday morning—saluting his bravery as he now enjoys a quieter life.  Jack FM
  • The state board declined to renew eight exploratory leases at the base of Casper Mountain — ending the gravel mining project on state-owned lands.  Casper Star-Tribune
