EDUCATION NEWS

  • Casper College named Corey Peacock, Ph.D., as the new vice president for student affairs following Linda Toohey’s retirement at the end of June. Peacock served as dean of students since 2019 and will focus on supporting students—he brings years of experience from previous roles.  K2 Radio
  • At Monday's meeting, the NCSD1 Board of Trustees in Casper approved bids, contracts, and a grant to fund items such as pizza orders, fresh fruits, bus financing, and e-waste disposal—ensuring projects like air handler replacement and bus lane repair for the upcoming 2024–25 school year are set. Superintendent Angela Hensley presented the proposals, and trustees unanimously accepted them.  Oil City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Casper released its Drinking Water Quality Report for 2024 and said that tap water is safe and meets EPA rules. The report found 14 substances, but all were far below federal limits—ensuring residents have safe water.  Jack FM
  • The Casper City Council discussed amending city ordinances on concealed carry to align with a bill repealing gun-free zones in public spaces and schools effective July 1. Officials reviewed current security screenings at City Hall and considered requiring permit checks—planning to propose a revised ordinance on June 24—ensuring the city meets new legislative requirements.  Oil City News
  • Last week the Rock Springs Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management announced it will change the Resource Management Plan for 3.6 million acres in Southwest Wyoming, sparking strong debate among energy groups, county officials, and environmentalists who say the current plan could cost up to $245M in lost revenue and jobs. University of Wyoming research and local voices warn the move may hurt oil and gas work unless the plan is revised—adding more fuel to the ongoing dispute over Wyoming’s energy future.  Cowboy State Daily

  • Public health officials are investigating a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to eggs recalled by August Egg Company on June 6. Wyoming consumers who purchased eggs — with sell-by dates from March 4 to June 19 — are advised to return or discard them and clean surfaces to prevent illness.  104.7 KISS FM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Casper's Ford Wyoming Center is getting a major update for the College National Finals Rodeo with a new dirt floor and bucking chutes added to refresh the arena for the event. Crews delivered and graded the dirt earlier this week and will finish the transformation by Thursday night to prepare the venue for the rodeo starting Sunday, June 15.  Oil City News
