- ➤ Jim and Sally Belcher held a farewell party for their 100-year-old cottonwood as 60 neighbors gathered to share food, poetry, and memories— the tree is 95% dead and will be taken down this month as the city ordered its removal. K2 Radio
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday, Casper Police Department received reports of five fires—one of which caused significant property damage—and police suspect arson. Casper Star-Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Casper College has created a new Robert L. Palmer Aviation Scholarship for aviation majors. The scholarship will award two students $500 in fall and spring if they enroll in at least 12 credit hours and maintain a 3.0 GPA—veterans are given preference. 104.7 KISS FM
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Updated wildfire details show the Taylor Draw fire is fully contained at 1,247 acres while the Horse Fire near Merna burned 2,793 acres and is 67% contained. A thunderstorm produced over 4,000 lightning strikes Tuesday and Wednesday night — causing several small fires in Bridger-Teton National Forest — and firefighters remain on alert today. The Cowboy
