COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Central Wyoming Fairgrounds in Casper, hundreds attended the PRCA rodeo and enjoyed carnival rides on July 9 despite near-100-degree heat—reports noted a lively midweek scene at the annual fair and rodeo. The fair will continue through Saturday with carnival gates opening at 3 p.m. today and at noon Saturday, and the rodeo starting nightly at 7:30 p.m.—organizers say.  Oil City News

CRIME NEWS

  • After a three-day trial, a Natrona County jury found Casper resident Jovan Dovante Presbury not guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery at a Taco Bell drive-through on Oct. 1, 2024—defense witnesses confirmed he was in Cheyenne that day while prosecutors said security footage linked him to a masked confrontation.  Oil City News
  • Phillip Angel Gaspar, a 20-year-old Casper man, pleaded guilty Wednesday to three felonies after a high speed chase ended with his friend’s car crashing into a light post on F Street and injuring passengers who suffered serious injuries — he now faces up to 10 years in prison and may be sent to a boot camp program.  Oil City News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The annual Caspar Collins Heritage Festival will take place on July 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Fort Caspar Museum, featuring reenactments, pioneer encampments and a classic car show—free admission for all visitors.  K2 Radio
  • On July 10, the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper held its Grand Opening reception at Bryce Hall during the First Thursday Art Walk from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event featured five local art exhibits, catered bites by Queen B Charcuterie — and an awards ceremony for the Art of Casper Mountain participants.  K2 Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Senators Lummis and Barrasso and Representative Hageman introduced the Wyoming Education Trust Modernization Act to update the state's school land fund rules and possibly raise returns from 5% to 8.3% for K-12 education without raising taxes. The bill would let the state invest funds more freely — a change that may add millions to local schools each year.  104.7 KISS FM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Casper experienced cooler conditions yesterday with a mix of clouds, sun, and a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., and today residents can expect even cooler temperatures before a weekend warm-up; the Wagonhound Rest Area on I-80 remains closed until further notice — and the I-25 Port of Entry was closed for maintenance until 5:00 a.m. on July 10th.  Jack FM
  • Women veterans are invited by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to attend the POWW event at Ramkota Hotel in Casper on Saturday, Aug. 2, which will include free meals, breakout sessions, and various activities. Organizers have also planned Friday events — a museum tour, film-making workshop, and evening gathering — and require registration by July 25.  Oil City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Banner Wyoming Medical Center in Casper opened a $7.3M EP lab in June—designed to help heart patients avoid long trips for simple procedures. The lab, staffed by two Colorado-based electrophysiologists working four days a month, now treats heart rhythm disorders and is expected to expand services—potentially running four to five days a week.  Cowboy State Daily
