- ➤ The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming has announced its 2025 Alumni Hall of Fame Class by selecting Brittany Wilson, Joseph Humphreys, and Romain Jackson from many nominations—each honoree began as a club member and will be recognized at the 27th Annual Awards and Recognition Breakfast on Sept. 17 at 6:30 a.m. at the Ford Wyoming Center. - ➤ A Wright man was charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping and battery after beating his brother with steel-toed boots and threatening him with pistols during an argument over unpaid phone bills—he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on August 25 at 9 a.m. Oil City News
- ➤ Former Casper officer Michael Scott Hughes fired his 10mm pistol during a 16-hour standoff at Quail Run Apartments last summer and put neighbors and officers at risk, and Judge Catherine Wilking broke the plea deal by sentencing him to 21—26 years in prison and ordering him to pay restitution. - ➤ The Wyoming Economic Health Index rose to 107.2 in June, up from 107.1 last year—its first increase in six months. Job numbers increased by 4,000 to 297,400 while the unemployment rate edged to 3.3% from 3.2%. 104.7 KISS FM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Natrona County School District Transportation Department will hold a practice run tomorrow for elementary first-time bus riders—parents will accompany students during the transfer process, and all riders must complete registration for the 2025-2026 school year. The run is only for Casper area buses, ensuring new students learn their routes in a safe and organized way. K2 Radio
- ➤ The Natrona County School District Transportation Department will hold a practice run on Friday, August 22 for new elementary bus riders—parents must accompany students from their AM pick-up to the NCSD Bus Hub where transfers will occur. All students must complete registration for the upcoming school year and this run applies only to Casper area buses. Jack FM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Mark Gordon ordered the Wyoming State Flag to be flown at half-staff at the Capitol and in Natrona County from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, Aug. 23 to honor Gail Zimmerman— a longtime state legislator who died on July 30 after serving from 1985 to 1998. Oil City News
- ➤ Zulima Lopez, a 26-year city employee, became Casper's interim city manager a week ago and now leads the city as it begins its search for a full-time manager. She worked in several roles — from risk management to Parks and Recreation — and her long local service helps guide the city's operations. Oil City News
- ➤ On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the Natrona County Board approved a consent agenda that set tax levies for Casper Community College, the city, and county agencies and granted federal funds to expand the Casper-Natrona County International Airport snow removal facility—contract amendments for local gravel pit projects, HR services, and a public hearing on Oct. 7 were also approved—while appointing Gregg Werger to the Weed and Pest District Board.
