ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A kitchen fire forced Old Chicago to close on Sunday afternoon when firefighters saw smoke coming from a piece of wood that caught fire between two ovens and steel plates—corporate managers plan to clean and restock inventory for a midweek reopening, though this has not been confirmed.  Oil City News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy reports Wyoming’s average gasoline price fell by 2.3 cents to $3.07 today; prices remain 4.2 cents higher than last month and 18.3 cents lower than one year ago.  The Cowboy
  • Natrona County drivers paid an average of $2.81 per gallon on Monday, a penny more even as national gas prices dropped 3.6 cents; the county still posted the lowest fuel costs in Wyoming with some stations as low as $2.65 at Ridley’s Family Market—this is the fourth straight week of low prices—and cheaper winter gasoline will begin tomorrow.  Oil City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jeff and Kim French have established the Cowboy State Scholarship to support Wyoming residents in STEM, agriculture, and trade fields—two eligible students will share a $1,000 annual award split between fall and spring semesters if they meet a 2.5 GPA minimum, enroll in at least six credits, and demonstrate financial need.  K2 Radio
  • A state legislator and a parent have raised concerns about a male custodian at Crest Hill Elementary who cross-dresses and uses she/her pronouns—raising questions about whether his conduct confuses students and conflicts with state laws on restroom usage and compelled speech. A Natrona County School District spokesperson maintained that district rules and state law are followed, while critics urge that the custodian be reassigned to ensure a clear learning environment.  Cowboy State Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fall foliage is coming across Wyoming as different areas see peak colors at different times due to changes in elevation and latitude. In Casper, the leaves will reach their best from Oct. 5th through Oct. 19th — residents can plan to enjoy the colors.  Wyoming News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Natrona County commissioners met on June 3 at the courthouse at 2:30 p.m. to review American Rescue Plan funds allocation, including a health department update and a discussion on fire protection funding, and they considered a resolution to designate Bates Creek Road as a county highway as well as a contract with YoungWilliams Inc. for an AI tool to train court staff—other agenda items included several license applications.  Oil City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wyoming’s suicide rate dropped since its 2021 peak but remains in the top three states with 26.5 deaths per 100,000 residents largely due to high gun ownership. Gov. Mark Gordon and state agencies continue to boost mental health outreach and expand services like the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline to help lower the numbers.  Casper Star-Tribune
