COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Greta Maxfield is the new CEO of Make-A-Wish Wyoming and a Casper native who grew up in nonprofit work—she plans to expand the organization’s outreach so every eligible child can receive a wish. Her first event, the Stories of Light gala, is scheduled for Nov. 8 to honor children in need of hope.  Oil City News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Prometheus Hyperscale, Spiritus, and Casper Carbon Capture announced a partnership to build a carbon-negative digital infrastructure campus in Natrona and Converse counties with at least $500 million and up to 1.5 gigawatts of IT-ready power. The project will add construction jobs now and long-term technical roles when power is ready in 2026 — a plan to meet rising AI compute needs.  Oil City News

  • Postcards & Pintsized Art will be held Saturday, October 18th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at ART321 on W Midwest Ave—attendees will sample local brews, enjoy smoked pork belly and other dishes, listen to live music and bid on local art during a silent auction.  Jack FM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After rumors about safety concerns at Kelly Walsh High School on Friday, school officials and law enforcement confirmed that no threat existed and that classes continued as normal—while a student was taken into custody on an unrelated matter.  Oil City News
  • SparkTank is a UW program that trains students to help local nonprofits by raising funds and teaching ethical leadership—awarding $165,000 in 2025 and contributing over $743,000 since 2018. The program has boosted local economic activity and inspired Casper College to launch a similar initiative in Natrona County.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Natrona County School District 1 clarified rumors that school staff suppressed Club America chapters at Kelly Walsh and Natrona County High School, stating that the two student-led clubs follow proper school processes and show strong civic engagement + are supported by school leaders. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Casperites enjoyed a colorful fall with shimmering leaves and icy windshields, and snowfall usually begins around this time although the winter solstice is on Dec. 21 (according to local experts). The National Park Service crowned its Heavyweight Champ of the World while experts advise leaving spent perennials and leaf debris in gardens (to help house winter birds).  Jack FM
  • A Casper company, DISA Technologies, received the first federal license to clean radioactive uranium mine waste using a closed-loop water system. The technology removes over 90% of contaminants and may pave the way for cleaning up legacy uranium sites across Wyoming and the West—an important breakthrough for affected communities.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Researchers studying mountain lions in the Laramie Mountains from 2019 to 2023 found that 80% of the cats returned to their feeding sites after being disturbed—indicating that the big cats are resilient and learn quickly from these encounters. The study shows that, despite human interference, the lions often stay close to their kills and adjust their behavior rather than abandoning their meals.  Oil City News

  • Casper Natrona County International Airport remains fully operational amid a government shutdown that has led to delays at other airports. HEALTH NEWS

  • Wyoming health officials & county sheriffs support a bill that will let the health department reimburse sheriffs for treating mentally ill inmates waiting for a hospital bed. The measure will be reviewed Monday and aims to ease county costs & improve inmate care in detention facilities.  Oil City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Kelly Walsh High School Trojans won the Oil Bowl trophy by beating the Natrona County High School Mustangs 35 to 25 at Dick Cheney Alumni Field in Casper on Oct. 10— it was their first win since 2016. Natrona County High will play Cheyenne South next week while the Trojans are set to face Cheyenne Central.  Oil City News
