COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Disabled American Veterans is hosting a seminar for veterans and their families at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building at 1800 Bryan Stock Trail on Friday, Dec. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (bring valid ID, SSN, and military service documentation), and DAV membership is not required.  Oil City News
  • Casper College will host a free Holiday Gift Swap and Shop on Saturday, Dec. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Swede (Erickson Thunderbird Gymnasium) where parents can pick out gifts while kids enjoy games and fun activities.  K2 Radio
  • Casper hosts a wreath laying ceremony today to honor local veterans at four sites (Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., Highland Park Cemetery at 12:00 p.m., Ft. Caspar Museum at 1:00 p.m., and Memorial Garden Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.).  Jack FM
  • Casper kids will meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at Natrona County Library on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 4:00 pm. The event offers free crafts, cookies, games + a chance to share wish lists for students in grades K to 6.  Jack FM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Today, hazardous winds are toppling semitrucks on I-25 and I-80 with 39 blow-overs reported since Tuesday+ officials have closed sections for vehicles under 50,000 pounds as emergency crews manage road hazards.  Jack FM
  • High winds since Tuesday have toppled several semitrucks on I-80 near Cooper Cove and closed parts of I-25 (officials urge drivers to avoid the roads for safety).  104.7 KISS FM

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Wyoming Insight report from November showed that natural gas prices rose, with Henry Hub averaging $3.78 per MMBtu, while oil prices fell for the fourth straight month as West Texas Intermediate crude hit $60.06 a barrel. Consumer tax collections also dropped to $77.4 million in November.  Jack FM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Natrona County High School's Thespian Troupe No. 1 won the 4A State Championship at the Wyoming Thespian Festival, earning its first state title in over 20 years and now preparing to compete nationally at Indiana University in Bloomington this summer.  The Cowboy

  • A survey by the Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center found that 84% of Wyoming residents see UW Athletics as important to the state's identity. Results from Sept. 5-Nov. 25 show high fan pride + strong support for state funding and the bucking horse logo.  Jack FM
